TITLE:  Ascentia A and Memory Upgrade Issue
 
 
ISSUE 
 
   After changing the system configuration or adding memory, the 
   following error message(s) may appear:
   
   Windows initializing device IOS: Windows protection error. IOS 
   failed to Initialize, Please restart
   
   While initializing IOS: Windows protection error. You need to 
   restart your computer.
   
   
   This issue may affect the following systems: 503150, 503151, 
   503297, 503255, 503375, and 503377.    

 
BACKGROUND 
 
   The file RMM.PDR, located in the Windows/System subdirectory, 
   needs to be version 4.00.1112, dated 10 March 97 or later.
   
   File <A HREF="ftp://ftp.ast.com/P-OTHER/RMM2UPD.EXE">RMM2UPD.EXE</A> contains the latest version of RMM.PDR for use 
   in systems preloaded with OSR2.    

 
ACTION 
 
   The solution is as follows:
   
   1. Download file <A HREF="ftp://ftp.ast.com/P-OTHER/RMM2UPD.EXE">RMM2UPD.EXE</A> from any of AST's On-Line! 
      services as follows:
   
      AST WWW Site:  http://www.ast.com
      AST On-Line! BBS*:  See IB0001.TXT
      CompuServe:  GO: ASTFORUM
      Prodigy:   JUMP: ASTSUPPORT
   
      * Refer to IB0001.TXT for a list of AST's 
        international BBS numbers.
   
      To decompress this file, create a temporary directory 
      on your hard drive, copy the downloaded file to that 
      directory, and run the file. 
   
   2. Double-click the file to automatically update your 
      original RMM.PDR to the latest version. Follow the 
      instructions on the screen.
