AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1736 07/01/97
TITLE: Bravo/LANDesk & BIOS Data Access Error
ISSUE
After booting a Bravo system under the Windows NT v4.0 operating
system, the LANDesk Client Manager (LDCM) v3.00 may display the
following error message once:
"BIOS data access error: 0x2002"
After reporting this condition, the LDCM and the system will
function normally; however, certain data normally available
through the LANDesk Client Manager 'Workstation Summary', 'Basic
Hardware', and 'Keyboard/Mouse' windows,
and some attribute values associated with the 'Intel PC System
Description' component listed on the 'DMI Control Panel' will
not display properly.
This issue could affect the following AST Bravo systems which use
the factory Windows NT 4.0 software load: 503246, 503247, 503248,
503320, 503322, 503349, 503350, 503386, and 503387.
BACKGROUND
On a Windows NT system, it is possible that an error number
between 0x2000 and 0x4FFF could be displayed as module
AST32CI1.EXE (a component instrumentation module of LDCM)
terminates its initialization process. The error number reported
may fall within the range indicated in the following error codes:
ERR_FILE_OPEN 0x2000
ERR_FILE_READ 0x3000
ERR_FILE_WRITE 0x4000
If an error is detected, AST32CI1 will terminate and LANDesk
Client Manager will not be able to display some information.
Error 0x2002 is associated with file open logic that timed out.
