AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1720 05/13/97 TITLE: Manhattan S/CP Intermittently Reboots ISSUE The Manhattan S/6200 and Commerce Pro systems will intermittently reboot when Automatic Server Recovery is enabled, and no hang condition has occurred. This issue affects the following systems: 503281, 503282, 501832, and 503076. BACKGROUND The Automatic Server Recovery (ASR) System is designed to reboot the system when a hang condition has occurred. However, due to the unexpectedly long time it takes for some SCSI disk drivers to load while booting Windows NT, the ASR subsystem sometimes reports a hang condition when in fact one has not occurred. This results in the system usually rebooting itself approximately nine minutes after booting into Windows NT. This issue may also affect NetWare though it has not been reported to. ACTION The solution is as follows: Upgrade the BIOS to version 3.80 (AST part number 905573-038) or higher for the following part numbers: 501832-xxx 503076-xxx Upgrade the BIOS to version 1.30 (AST part number 905601-032) or higher for the following part numbers: 503281-xxx 503282-xxx Files 05573038.EXE and 05601032.EXE are available from any of AST's On-Line! services listed below.
