TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1637 12/04/96 TITLE: Advantage!, Visioneer Software, Modem ISSUE After installing the Visioneer Paperport software (all versions) for the HP ScanJet 4S or the Visioneer Paperport scanner, the modem that is bundled with the system may no longer function. The modem may fail to connect and fail the modem diagnostics. This issue affects all Advantage! Adventure 8xx systems. BACKGROUND N/A ACTION To resolve the issue, perform the following steps: 1. Download file PPORTDRV.EXE from Visioneer's web site at http://www.visioneer.com. 2. Execute the PPORTDRV.EXE file. 3. Change to the PAPRPORT directory. 4. Replace the current PPORTDRV.DRV driver with the one that was just downloaded. 5. Change to the PAPRPORT\DATA directory. 6. Edit the PPORTDRV.INI file. Under [Features] add or modify the two lines below: NoDetOnCOM=2 DetectFirst=1 7. Save changes. 8. Change to the WINDOWS directory. 9. Edit the SYSTEM.INI file. 10. Add or modify this line under the [Boot] section drivers=MMSYSTEM.DLL POWER.DRV PAPRPORT 11. Add or modifiy the lines in [386Enh] below: COM1IRQ=4 COM2IRQ=3 COM3IRQ=4 COM4IRQ=3 COM1Base=03F8 COM2Base=02F8 COM3Base=03E8 COM4Base=02E8 12. Add or modify the line below under the [Drivers] section paprport=c:\paprport\pportdrv.drv 13. Save changes. 14. Reboot system.
