TITLE: Advantage! 611/613/614/812 HD Restore


SUMMARY

   After performing a hard disk restore on an Advantage! 611, 613, 
   614, or 812 system, the software may encounter errors. 

   This issue applies only to the following systems that shipped
   in Europe: 501766, 501768, and 501856.


ISSUE

   The hard disk restore software may encounter the following errors: 

   (a) If the key <F8> is pressed on startup, the option 
       "Previous DOS Version" appears on the start menu. Please see
	Note 1 in the NOTE section below.

   (b) The Real Mode drivers for the audio subsystem (Vibra16) may not
       be installed.

   (c) The Multi-Media Connect printer driver is set for LPT1. 

   (d)  Microsoft Exchange may not be configured correctly.  Please see
	Note 2 in the NOTES section below.

ACTION

   AST has revised its Hard Disk Restore diskette to resolve this issue.
   Obtain the software by following the instructions below:

   1. Download file <A HREF="ftp://ftp.ast.com/D-OTHER/ADVCDRES.EXE">ADVCDRES.EXE</A> from one of the following AST
      On-Line! services:

	AST WWW Site:  http://www.ast.com 
	AST Americas On-Line! BBS*:  See IB0001.TXT 
	CompuServe:  GO: ASTFORUM 
 
	* Refer to IB0001.TXT for a list of AST's international BBS 
	  numbers. 

   2. Copy the <A HREF="ftp://ftp.ast.com/D-OTHER/ADVCDRES.EXE">ADVCDRES.EXE</A> file to a temporary directory on the hard
      disk.

   3. Execute file ADVCDRES.EXE.  The file will extract itself into 
      three further files:

	  DISKFILE.EXE
	  EXTRACT.BAT
	  RESTOREF.IMG

   4. Once all the files are decompressed, run  EXTRACT.BAT to create
      the Hard Disk Restore Diskette. (This step requires a blank 3.5"
      formatted 1.44MB diskette.)

   5. Leave the Hard Disk Restore Diskette inserted into the floppy 
      drive and restart the system.  The CD restore process will then
      automatically start.
	
   6. When the restore is completed, remove the diskette from the 
      floppy drive and restart the system.


NOTES

   (1) MSDOS.SYS has option Bootmulti=1 which adds the 
       "Previous DOS Version" option to the <F8> start menu.  A lack 
       of a previous version of DOS on the image may cause the system
       to give an error

   (2) When the user attempts a fax "send" or "print" from inside an
       application, "print job failed" errors may occur.
