DB2 OLAP Server Installation Guide
DB2 OLAP Integration Server is installed as an optional add-on for the DB2
OLAP Server.
To install the DB2 OLAP Integration Server as an add-on component:
- Verify that you have the necessary software product components and that
the server and client computer systems on which you will install DB2 OLAP
Integration Server meet system requirements.
- If you have existing applications that use the Relational Storage Manager,
you must migrate them to the Multidimensional Storage Manager before
installing DB2 OLAP Integration Server Version 8.1.
- Install DB2 OLAP Server if you have not already done so.
- Install the server component of DB2 OLAP Integration Server from the DB2
OLAP Server CD, on Windows NT, 2000, or XP, or on UNIX. For UNIX
installation, you must perform additional manual configuration and install the
Java Runtime Environment or equivalent included on the installation
CD-ROM. See Chapter 6, Installing and configuring Java for more information.
- Install the client component (the Essbase Integration Services Console)
from the DB2 OLAP Server CD, on Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows ME, Windows
2000, or Windows XP.
- Configure a data source using ODBC. See Chapter 7, Configuring the SQL Interface. On the computer running DB2 OLAP Integration Server,
create Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connections to an OLAP Metadata
Catalog data source and to the relational data source that you use for
creating OLAP models and metaoutlines.
- Create an OLAP Metadata catalog. See Chapter 9, Creating OLAP Metadata Catalogs for DB2 OLAP Integration Server for more information.
- Set up the sample applications. See Samples for DB2 OLAP Integration Server.
For DB2 OLAP Integration Server, set the environment variables required for
database client software in the login script of the user who runs DB2 OLAP
Integration Server. These environment settings are required for ODBC
access to the databases in the RDBMS that you are using. The database
vendor typically supplies a shell script to set any environment variables
required by the database client. Add this shell script to the login
script for the user who runs the DB2 OLAP Integration Server software.
For more information about how to set environment variables for the database
client, see the database client installation documentation.
To verify that the database client software is set up correctly, log on as
the user who runs DB2 OLAP Integration Server, and use a database utility to
connect to the databases that you use with DB2 OLAP Integration Server.
