HP OMNIBOOK 300, 425, AND 430 - INFRARED TRANSFER WITH THE HP 95LX
PALMTOP USING MS WINDOWS TERMINAL
ISSUE:HP OmniBook 300, 425, and 430 - infrared transfer with
the HP 95LX Palmtop using MS Windows Terminal
SOLUTION:The HP 95LX Palmtop is capable of transferring data in
the following formats:XMODEM and Kermit. To transfer
data between the HP OmniBook 300, 425, or 430 and the
HP 95LX Palmtop, the HP OmniBook 300, 425, or 430 must
be capable of transmitting data in at least one of
these formats. The following is an outline of the
steps needed to transfer files between the HP OmniBook
300, 425, or 430 and the HP 95LX Palmtop using the
infrared interface.
To proceed, you will need to download the MS Terminal
accessory files TERMINAL.EXE and TERMINAL.HLP to your
HP OmniBook 300, 425, or 430 (see application note HP
OmniBook 300/425 Downloading Windows Terminal).
Terminal is capable of transmitting data in either
Kermit or XMODEM formats.
The subsequent procedure assumes a session of LapLink
Remote is not currently active on the HP OmniBook 300,
425, or 430. These steps need to be completed on both
the HP OmniBook 300, 425, or 430 and the HP 95LX
Palmtop. Either the HP OmniBook 300, 425, or 430 or
the HP 95LX Palmtop can be configured first as long as
Step One is entirely complete before proceeding to Step
Two. In this procedure, XMODEM is used as an example
protocol; however, Kermit may be chosen instead, if
desired.
STEP ONE
HP OMNIBOOK 300, 425, OR HP 95LX PALMTOP
430
1. Close all application and 1. Press [COMM] key.

2. Reboot ([Ctrl] + [Alt] + 2. Press [MENU] key.

Communications.
10. Set baud rate to 2400.
11. Set Connector to COM2.
12. Choose OK button when
finished.
13. Press [Alt] + [S]
simultaneously.
14. Press [B] to choose
Binary Transfers.
15. Select XMODEM[1]
protocol.
16. Choose OK button when
finished.
[] [If Kermit is selected, ensure that Kermit is also
selected on the other machine.]
STEP TWO - BEGIN STEP TWO ONLY AFTER COMPLETING ALL OF STEP ONE
HP OMNIBOOK 300, 425, OR HP 95LX PALMTOP
430
1. Press [Alt] + [T] 1. Press [S] to Send or
simultaneously. [R] to Receive
(depending on
transfer direction).
2. Choose the Send or Receive 2. Enter path and file
option - (depending on name - Do Not Press
transfer direction). Enter at this point
(example:
c:\_dat\phone1.pdb).
3. Enter path and file name
to send/receive. - Do Not
Press Enter at this point
(example:c:\phone.pdb).
STEP THREE - BEGIN STEP THREE ONLY AFTER COMPLETING STEP TWO
HP OMNIBOOK 300, 425, OR 430 HP 95LX PALMTOP
1. Align both infrared ports on
HP OmniBook 300, 425, or 430
and HP 95LX Palmtop.
2. Choose OK button. 2. Press [ENTER]
key.
The file(s) should now be transmitting. The progress
of transmission will be displayed on the bottom of the
screen on the HP OmniBook.
