HP OMNIBOOK 300, 425, 430, AND 530 - HP INTERNAL FAX/MODEM MODE
SWITCHING
ISSUE:HP OmniBook 300, 425, 430, and 530 - mode switching for
the HP Internal Fax/Modem.
SOLUTION:
MODE DESCRIPTION
When switching from the use of Delrina WinFax LITE to
DynaComm, the HP OmniBook Internal Fax/Modem may still
be in fax service class mode 2. To successfully use
DynaComm for data communications, the fax/modem must be
switched to fax service class mode 0. The fax service
class mode can be determined in DynaComm communications
by typing the modem command AT+FCLASS?. If the number
"2" is displayed, fax service class mode 2 is still
active. See the table below to determine what other
modes are possible.

MODIFY THE MODEM INITIALIZATION STRINGS
The WinFax LITE and DynaComm initialization strings
need to be modified so that normal communications can
resume. On the following pages are step-by-step
instructions to modify the initialization strings to
allow reliable application switching on the HP OmniBook
300, 425, 430, and 530.
DYNACOMM MODIFICATIONS
Follow these instructions to modify the DynaComm
settings for reliable usage with the HP Internal
Fax/Modem, HP part number F1040A.
1. While in Windows, close all other applications
except Program Manager.
2. Start the DynaComm communications software.
3. From the DynaComm Settings menu choose Modem...
4. In the Modem selection screen, select the Hewlett-
Packard OmniBook modem.
5. Choose Settings...
6. In the Modem Settings screen, choose Use Defaults.
7. Modify the Initialize:string with the following:
a. Before modification, your Initialize:string
should resemble the following.
^M~AT&C1&D2Q0V1X4E1S0=0^M
b. Add the following command after the ^M~AT portion
and before
&C1&....+FCLASS=0
c. After modification, your Initialize:string
should resemble the following.
^M~AT+FCLASS=0&C1&D2Q0V1X4E1S0=0^M
8. Choose OK to exit to the Modem Settings screen.
9. In the Modem selection screen, choose OK to exit to
the main DynaComm screen.
10. When entering the main DynaComm screen, you
will still see the old initialize string being sent
to the HP Internal Fax/Modem. In order to activate
the new initialize string do the following.
a. From the Settings menu, choose Modem.
b. In the Modem selection screen, select Direct
Connection (no modem).
c. Choose OK to exit to the main DynaComm screen.
d. From the Settings menu, choose Modem.
e. In the Modem selection screen, select Hewlett-
Packard OmniBook.
f. Choose OK to exit to the main DynaComm screen.
g. When re-entering the main DynaComm screen, you
will now see the correct initialize string being
sent to the HP Internal Fax/Modem.
11. Exit DynaComm and SAVE settings when prompted.
Your DynaComm communications software should now be
properly initialized to work with the HP Internal
Fax\Modem.
DELRINA WINFAX LITE MODIFICATIONS
Follow these instructions to modify the Delrina WinFax
LITE settings for reliable usage with the HP Internal
Fax/Modem, HP part number F1040A.
1. While in Windows, close all other open applications
except Program Manager.
2. Start WinFax LITE.
3. From the Delrina WinFax LITE Administrator File
menu, choose Setup and then Fax.
4. In the Setup screen, choose More.
5. In the Modem Setup area of the Fax/Modem Setup
screen, select Hewlett-Packard OmniBook as modem
Type:
6. In the Modem Setup area of the Fax/Modem Setup
screen, modify the Initialization:string as
follows:
a. Before modification, your Initialization:string
should resemble the following.
AT&F0&C1&D2S7=90\
b. Add the following command after the AT portion
and before
&F0&.....Z0+FCLASS=2
c. After modification, your Initialization:string
should resemble the following.
ATZ0+FCLASS=2&F0&C1&D2S7=90\
7. After the above modification is complete, choose OK
to exit the Fax\Modem Settings screen.
8. In the Delrina WinFax LITE Setup screen, choose OK
to exit back to the Delrina WinFax LITE
Administrator screen.
9. Exit and restart WinFax LITE to activate the change.
Your Delrina WinFax LITE is now properly initialized to
work with the HP Internal Fax/Modem.
