X-Brawn

Robot Mode Vehicle Mode Packaging Motto: "Strength wins!"

STRENGTH

X-Brawn loves extremes and is at his best in disastrous situations and brutal climates, such as dry deserts or snowstorms. He doesn't waste time on long-winded speeches and can be counted on to say it all in just a few words. He's very reliable and has fearsome strength. He is a martial arts master with an especially powerful left arm. His "Southpaw Lariat" in invincible.

Toy Review:
Color Scheme:
The major colors are silver and green. He also has orange and black accents, and the obligatory red Autobot logos.
Robot Mode:
The only brawny things about his robot mode are his lower legs and his left arm. his torso, right arm and upper legs are actually on the skinny side. Not so much as Prowl (RiD version) but also not in proportion to his bulky bits. I'm not real fond of the two car doors on the left arm, and the tail-pipe-side-runners for missiles sticking out of his right arm, but I'm not complaining. Sure, he looks a little lopsided and disproportionate, but his vehicle mode makes up for it. Truthfully, though, he's got great articulation, and playability. The fact that he's not some cookie-cutter robot adds to his character.
Vehicle Mode:
An SUV, plain and simple. I guess it's somewhat Ford Explorer like, but in a generic sort of way. I'm really not sure what vehicle he's most closely modeled after, but it doesn't matter. He's a cool looking SUV. In vehicle mode, his two missiles serve as side runners. One of them doesn't peg in as well as it could, because the molded Autobot logo on his underside prevents it from going in completely. I've actually considered shaving a little plastic off of the tip of that missile to make it fit better. His robot head rides shotgun in this mode, which is kind of fun, especially since they even play on that fact in the cartoon (see first episode of TF: Robots in Disguise)
Transformation:
From vehicle to robot it's not a big deal, but going back to vehicle can be a pain because of the way his arms have to be, and how his legs tuck into the back section of the vehicle. If things are perfect, it just won't fit together. All three of the "Car Brothers" have their quirks, though.
Gimmicks:
His right arm can shoot his side runners as missiles. His left arm is really huge, but I don't really count it as a gimmick, because it doesn't DO anything.
Pros/Cons:
Great vehicle mode, disproportional robot mode, but overall very cool.

Comments: Looks good in vehicle mode, but the robotmode is kinda troublesome. His left arm is too big, and the car doors hinder it's poseability. It's certainly worth getting, though!

Comments: This toy is ugly!!!!!!!!!

Added by: Jultered to look more "puffed-out" for safety reasons. Odd, considering that it's the same size as Side Burn's/Speedbreaker's missile, and that wasn't altered.

I do dwell on the "pillow missile". I paid an extra $15 over X-Brawn's retail for a new Wild Ride(my old one was given away due to chrome wear) because of it. And it's why I took a point off.

Though, if you aren't picky(or aren't willing to srop any extra), it's not a change that makes the overall robot any less.

Comments: Transforms from realistic looking Sport Utility Vehicle to robot and back. X-Brawn is a great treat for those awaiting the return of modern day vehicles to the world of Transformers.

In vehicle mode, X-Brawn measures in at 5 1/4" from front bumper to spare tire rack. He is predominantly gray with dark green and black trim. The hood opens up to reveal his engine and both front doors open as well. On the passenger side (or the driver side in Japan), the robot head is visible. This is sort of neat as it gives the illusion that he's at least watching where he's going. A sunroof is detailed and can be opened with a little effort unlike the rear passenger doors.

Transforming him can be a bit of a challenge, but not impossible. First you remove the tailpipe assemblies and front chrome bumper from underneath the vehicle and open the front doors. Grabbing hold of the front of the SUV, pull the rear back as far as it will go. Hold onto the middle of the toy and pull the front out away from the body (this will become one of the robot arms), then swing the other robot arm out from behind the robot head. Slide the rear of the vehicle to the left and split down the middle to form the legs. Bring the rear tires around and lower the spare tire rack to form the feet. Swing the front right tire toward the robot to reveal the left hand. Bring the robot head up and situated the arms to your liking. The tailpipes can be used as missiles in his right hand/launcher or can be stored behind his robot head on the underside of the vehicle roof. X-Brawn can also hold the bumper and missiles in his left hand as a weapons.

As a robot, X-Brawn stands at about 5 1/2". His left lower arm is huge as it comprises the front engine block of the vehicle and both front doors. By comparison, the right arm is puny by comparison, but since it's the missile launcher, it works well as a counter to the other limb. X-Brawn is mostly dark green with gray highlights and has a phenomenal amount of painted detail on his face and chest is wonderful. Another nice feature I forgot to mention earlier is that his tires have the word Transformers on them and they are rubber to boot! There haven't been rubber tires on a Transformer for about fourteen years or so.

I definitely recommend X-Brawn for anyone into Transformers. His transformation is challenging, yet doable and he looks great in both modes. The only thing I can caution against is that you shouldn't aim the missile launcher at anyone's eyes, nose, or heck, the entire face for that matter. There's a lot of punch there and there's no sense getting hurt over a toy, especially by the toy.
