- Color Scheme:
- Skydive combines shades of purple (very dark, and very light), shades of orange (translucent and opaque) and silver painted accents for a well balanced overall design. I've never been a big fan of orange, but it's not as bad as it sounds. I think he would look much cooler in red and black, though, maybe a Beast Machines Terrorsaur, hehe. ;-)
- Robot Mode:
- Lanky, but nice. He has wing parts hanging from his elbows and his shoulders, but they conveniently fold (and lock!) back, or swing up (in the case of the wing parts on his shoulders. He does have extraordinarily long "middle" claws, which lends nicely to obscene gestures, but aren't all that functional. I guess they're supposed to be sword-like weapons, and you can grab his wing parts to make them "slash" back and forth. Eh, no biggie. Aside from the big claw on each hand, I could live without his huge Pteranodon beak sticking out his back side. Too bad they couldn't make this fold up against his back, or even detach as a weapon or shield.
- Beast Mode:
- Well, I don't think Pteranodon legs are quite so long, but the rest is pretty good. They can be posed to help him "perch" or moved back for "in flight" position. What I really like is being able to fold his wings down against his sides much like a real bird/pteranodon. Overall a well done pteranodon beast mode.
- Transformation:
- No too hard, IMHO. His arms can be tricky, since you have to fold up the side panels, rotate the entire arm section, then continue folding the side panels against his beast head. With some turning of parts, and tucking of others, he's done. The instructions are pretty good for this guy, so people having trouble with him should check them out.
- Gimmicks:
- Well, his instructions say "move rear arm spine back and forth to sword slashing on either arm" but it's really nothing more than moving his arm from behind the elbow. It works, I guess, but it's not really a "gimmick" per se. He does have a real gimmick in beast mode, though. When you "pull a lever" at the base of his neck, his head snaps forward for "biting action." Although it's ok, I don't think it would be very practical in play. Check the head shot for pics of the gimmick in action.
- Pros/Cons:
- Overall a good toy. Good beast and bot modes, but weak gimmicks. Decent color scheme, and his spec is almost realistic. At least he's not hard to hit AND an expert marksman. hehe. ;-)
