The 1MB version has twice as much memory (RAM), which means you can store more files and run larger programs. The maximum size program you can open on the 512K version is about 480K bytes. The maximum size program you can open on the 1MB is about 600K bytes. A 512K RAM card will let you store more files, but the size of a program you can open will not increase. Using a RAM card is analogous to using a floppy disk in the A: drive on your desktop PC.
