95/100/200LX--Connect Palmtop to Printer using a desktop PC as an alternative serial-to-parallel converter
You can use a desktop or laptop PC as an alternative to a serial-to-parallel converter for printing. Of course serial-to-parallel converters are much smaller, more portable and less expensive than buying a PC. But PCs connected to printers can be found almost anywhere. If you already have one available, you can use it to serve the same function.
Here's how I did it:
- 1. Connect the serial cable from the Palmtop to the serial port of the desktop PC. Make sure the Palmtop application is set to print to the serial port.
- 2. On the desktop, run a terminal emulation program like ProComm and set it to log (copy) the terminal session to the printer. (Check that the baud rate in Setup matches the baud rate in
ProComm.) The terminal program will send everything that comes in through the serial port back out the desktop PCs parallel port to the printer.
