Spraying contact cleaner into a loose case hinge (as mentioned on page 23 of the Nov/Dec 93 issue) can damage the case.
I used Kleen-All contact cleaner (military specification, no perfume), which I have used for other applications without any problems. My HP 100LX case cracked and the display bezel near the hinge separated away from the top case. The reaction was chemical, not thermal.
HP agreed to swap my unit for a remanufactured one, which will be here tomorrow morning via HP's Express Exchange service. To quote the support person: "Experience gained is directly proportional to equipment ruined."
A word to the wise is sufficient!
